When we started this project, a ground-up chalet in Big Sky in partnership with Centre Sky Architects, Chloe and the wife bonded immediately over the fact that they both grew up in small Montana towns and were now back, doing a glamorous project that never would have been on their radar as girls. Together they conjured a Laura Ingrams Wilder character who left the prairie, went far away for college and let herself be inspired by the Japanese photographer Rizaku Suzuki, by the textiles of the Alps, by the ceramics of Sweden. Our fictional Prairie Boss is a collector and brings it all home, pouring ideas from every trip into this airy jewel of a house, creating her own modern homestead – high ceilings and lots of glass, but also a personal and tactile wonderland.
